We Are Brompton | Juliet Oman

We are creators. Everyone at Brompton plays a small part in making these bikes and getting them into the hands of people to ride, find their route and enjoy.

From first sketches through to today, it’s the people behind the product that make us different.

Decades of hard work and so many stories.

We are Brompton.

Juliet Oman started at Brompton in 2019 and has been working in the Marketing Team as the Senior Content & Optimisation Executive.

Could you tell us how you started working at Brompton?

When I graduated university in Chicago a couple of years ago I was determined to work for a brand whose values I shared, particularly in regards to greener, sustainable living. While studying I was oftentimes surprised how the concept of sustainability and social responsibility seemed like an afterthought, and I've always been the type of person who wants to have their heart in their work.

After spending most of my life in the US, I wanted to experience something different so I set my sights on London and made my way over to England. When I got the opportunity to work for Brompton it felt like the perfect fit - I was getting the chance to work for a company where everyone there truly loves and believes in the bike. It's hard not to get excited when everyone around you is so passionate!

What do you work on at Brompton?

I get to work on such a wide variety of things - on everything from brand collaborations and content creation to data analysis to user experience. It's a really great learning experience to be involved in so many things, you really get to see and understand the whole ecosystem of the business that way. Nearly the entire Brompton operation is under one roof too, which from a marketer's perspective is incredibly unique to have. You feel really connected to it and it lets you gain a huge appreciation for the work everyone does.

In your opinion, what makes working at Brompton so special?

Well, I think I've touched on some aspects of it already, but to me the thing that makes Brompton special is 100% the people. You have so many kind, interesting and creative people here, from all around the world and I definitely feel like I've made some friends for life here - my flatmate Sarah and I actually met at work!

Relaxing and unwinding is always important. How do you like to spend your time outside of work?

Outside of work, and in normal times, I loved to spend a weekend with my friends, who mean everything to me, or go somewhere new. When you're from the Midwest and it can take 7 hours just to drive out of your state, being able to travel for a few hours and be in an entirely different country and culture is such a novelty.

Of course, 2020 had different plans for us all, and this past year I really enjoyed spending the weekends going on rides with Sarah to explore different parts of London - seeing iconic spots so uncharacteristically empty really allowed me to rediscover the city I live in.

I also love to write short stories, definitely the kind that never get finished, but creating characters and writing little quips about them is such a nice way to spend an afternoon. My phone notes are full of them.

Tell us your most memorable moment at Brompton since joining?

About a month after I started, a few people were planning an overnight camping trip. Setting off on Brompton Electrics on a Monday after work, we took the tube as far as we could go and cycled a few more miles before camping and heading straight back to the office the next day, smelling just like a bonfire. I was picking leaves out of my hair the rest of the day - truly a great introduction to Brompton.

It takes the hard work of every single Brompton staff member to take our little folding bikes from the first sketch to shipping them out the door. Read more about our incredible team here.
